B.S. Chemistry, Augusta University
M.A.T. Chemistry Education, Augusta University
Teaching and tutoring all levels of chemistry since 2011.
Alexis is from the Augusta, Georgia area, but moved to Costa Rica just two weeks after college graduation to pursue a career in international education. She obtained her BS in Chemistry and MAT in Chemistry Education at Augusta University, graduating with honors and distinction. During her time in university, she tutored high school and college students in various Chemistry courses. After moving to Costa Rica, she taught high school science and technology classes for three years at an international school. Now she works as a technology integration coach in several schools in Costa Rica and also as a Study Abroad coordinator for a local university.
Since 2011, Alexis has worked with a number of students from a wide mix of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as with many students with learning differences. Due to this diversity in experience, she knows how to approach concepts from multiple angles to ensure every student eventually reaches an understanding. She is patient with her students because she knows that all students are capable of high achievement with the right style of teaching, and that the right style of teaching can be different for every learner.
Alexis is fairly reserved in her professional life, but she finds herself most in her element when teaching and working with students. She is also an expert at coming up with hilarious metaphors that somehow make abstract concepts come to life and give students cause to laugh!
- Alexis received a full-ride, merit-based scholarship.
