About

Byung graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University with a double major in Economics and French Language and Literature. At Columbia, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, received departmental honors in French, and was awarded the prize for best thesis.

An accomplished student from the start, Byung was valedictorian of his high school, a National Merit Scholar, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. He earned a perfect score on the PSAT, a 2330 out of 2400 on the SAT (including perfect 800s in Math and Writing), and scores of 5 on eleven AP exams. Beyond academics, he was a nationally ranked competitor in Extemporaneous Speaking with the National Speech and Debate Association.

After graduation, Byung began his career in private equity before moving into education, where he discovered his passion for helping students succeed. Over the past several years, he has tutored dozens of students intensively for the SAT, with the vast majority improving their scores by 100–200 points. And many of his students have earned admission to Ivy League universities. His tutoring style is comprehensive and highly personalized, blending test-taking strategies with a strong emphasis on core fundamentals to build both skill and confidence.

Outside of tutoring, Byung is a passionate traveler and linguist. He has lived in 10 different countries and achieved advanced proficiency in French and Korean, upper-intermediate proficiency in Russian and Serbian, and lower-intermediate proficiency in Levantine Arabic.
