Karina
About
Karina is a neuroscientist who loves helping students build their math and science skills. She grew up in California where, during high school, she excelled at standardized tests: she was a National Merit Finalist, and she scored a 5 on the AP Calculus exam, a 1570 on the SAT, and perfect 800s on the old SAT subject tests for Math 2, Literature, and Chemistry. Then she headed east for her bachelor’s at Harvard and her PhD at Columbia, both in neuroscience. While in undergrad, she started tutoring and hasn’t stopped since.
Today, as a full-fledged scientist, she’s never believed more in the practical value of the foundational math and science she helps students learn. Outside of the lab and teaching, Karina loves trying new things—from glass-blowing to snowboarding. As she hopes her students discover, there is an excitement to that early stage of not knowing what you’re doing and starting to figure it out.
